Born Dimitris Tsichlas, in Athens, Greece, Dimitris is the son of a classically trained pianist. Music was his lifeblood from the beginning; as a baby, his father would set him on top of the piano while he practiced. His family spent summers on the island of Mykonos, where Dimitris was exposed to European house music. By his teenage years, Dimitris knew he wanted to be a DJ.  In 1984, Dimitris began to DJ in progressive nightclubs in Athens. Within two years, he had amassed a strong local following and began spinning in the Greek islands and in surrounding European countries, where he cultivated an appreciation for music that transcended cultural boundaries, and developed his diverse, international style.
 

In the early 1990’s, Dimitris moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he took a hiatus from performing while he focused on his education. He went to clubs in San Francisco, where he would watch other DJs spin and think about his days behind the turntables. Driven by his love of music, he began to spin again, at small house parties in the Bay Area.
 

Dennis Wang, a friend and the founder of PleasureZone, an exclusive, upscale dance party in San Francisco, asked Dimitris to DJ at a PleasureZone event in 1998. The crowd responded so well that Wang made Dimitris the resident DJ for all PleasureZone parties. A core group of Dimitris’ fans grew out of these first few parties, and as Dimitris played larger and larger shows, people began to ask him to describe his style of music. He always explained that it was “Mykonos-style…music like they play on the island of Mykonos. Music that makes you feel good and dance.” Friend Trevor Hewitt of Mixed Elements, San Francisco’s leading nightlife promotion company, suggested billing Dimitris as DJ Dimitris Mykonos.

So began DJ Dimitris Mykonos.
 

Since that time, a loyal DJ Dimitris Mykonos culture has coalesced, driven by live audience shows pumped by infectious house beats, euphoric melodies and an outpouring of energy fueled by Dimitris himself. Known to come out from behind the turntables and join his audience to dance, Dimitris inspires a crowd by becoming a participant in the very party he creates.
